The Job
After completing several successful repairs and upgrades on existing systems for Halo, we were invited to design and install a new solar PV system at their Ross-on-Wye site. To help reduce the site’s energy consumption as much as possible, our goal was to maximise the use of available flat roof space.
Our Assessment & Execution
However, this presented a unique challenge. The roof structure was comprised of relatively unknown materials and supported by older-style glulam beams, requiring a cautious and considered approach. To ensure the installation could be completed safely and effectively, we commissioned a structural survey. Based on the results, the fixing points for the flat roof mounting system were carefully designed to align directly over the glulam beams, where the structure offers the greatest strength. The final system consisted of 88 all-black panels, installed using the Van der Valk Pro+ flat roof system. The array is powered by a Solax X3 Mega 40kWp three-phase inverter, with over a kilometre of DC cabling used to connect the system.
